My ‘Recommended for You’ section on YouTube is a strange place filled with videos of people doing squats and deadlifts, cute cat videos and Lululemon try-ons, so I’m blaming the latter for my recent Lululemon urge. I can’t say I’ve ever been too into it before. I purchased one of their Yoga Mats when I was in New York because the exchange rate made it a bit kinder to purchase and man it’s bloody brilliant. No slip and still going strong over a year later. But it was their leggings that I was interested in. Not wanting to have to do the whole online purchase/try on/return to the post office palaver, I made a trip to their Covent Garden store on a recent London visit and let’s just say that I didn’t leave empty handed…
Firstly the customer service there is insane. If you want help, they’re happy to give it by the bucketload. I tried on a few pairs, but it was the Align Pants that the changing room assistant suggested for resistance training that fitted best and once I’d tried them on I knew that there was no way I was going to leave the shop without them. Here’s the deal:
THE PROS: They feel like a baby’s behind and are possibly the softest thing I’ve ever felt against my skin. Seriously. The fit is pretty perfect too. I take them in a 10 and they sit snuggly, but not uncomfortably so, around my waist and the 7/8ths length means that they just skim my ankles. Basically they fit like a glove. I love where they sit on the belly too – almost belly button height – which makes them so comfortable and means that they don’t dig in and you don’t spend the whole of your workout hoiking them back up.
THE CONS: These are more for low-intensity/lifting/yoga kinda activities. There’s no compression in the fabric so if you get down and do 40 mountain climbers, your behind is going to wobble around in a jelly-like fashion (unfortunately I’ve tried and tested this). They’re also composed of a fairly thin fabric, so aren’t really outdoors appropriate. The major con though is that once you have them on, you’re not going to want to take them off. Oh yeah this too though – the price. The price is slightly painful, but I’m hoping that these will be an investment piece and I’ll still be whipping them out for (light) sweat-related activities in years to come.
So basically I love ’em and if you try them on in-store then be prepared to drop some serious dollar because you’ll want to walk out the shop wearing them. Another thing I purchased was a pair of the Light As Air Hipsters in Black which are some seriously sexy looking seamless undies that promise a true no VPL look. Surprise, surprise – they deliver on their promise and I’m now working out how I can gather enough pairs to last me through a week of workouts. Maybe I can ask all my family members for a pair for my birthday? That’s not weird, right?
Lululemon = *money flying away emoji* *peach emoji* *heart eye emoji*. That pretty much sums it up.
