During the summer, I’m all about the glow. One time my sister described my complexion as ‘greasy’ and I literally punched the air with excitement. A slight excess of oil is something that is quite appreciated these days. When the climate is hot and humid I’m all for a light shine across the cheeks, a shimmer on the eye and a slick of something glossy on the lips. When the winter rolls around though, I lean more towards the matte side of things (much to the delight of my sister). Sure, I still encourage a light dewiness across my complexion and I’m up for a metallic texture on my lids, but when it comes to lips – mattes are where it’s at. Enter my new favourite luster-free, liquid lip colour that’s delivering on the matte front – the Giorgio Armani Lip Magnets.

Now these caused quite the kerfuffle when they were launched and after being sold out at Selfridges for yonks at their pre-launch, they’re finally available nationwide. There are 18 shades in total; three corals, four reds, eight pinks and three plums – so there’s going to be something to satisfy every matte lip appetite for all occasions here. Formula-wise they’re unlike any other liquid lip colour that I’ve tried. They go onto the lips in a thin, water-like veil of colour. The texture means that they’re easy to manoeuvre and I don’t ever feel like there’s anything on my lip – let alone a badass swipe of seriously opaque pigment. Give ’em a couple of minutes and the watery texture evaporates and leaves behind a matte layer of colour that’s twice as intense as when you first applied it. It’s really quite something.

The longevity of these are their best asset though. You know how some liquid lipsticks dry the lips out, flake away and generally make things look like a cat’s rear? These rise above the liquid formula curse and instead leave my lips feeling hydrated and not crispy looking at all, even after hours and hours of wear. And boy, do do these wear well! I apply them in the morning and only ever need to touch-up at late afternoon; and that’s when I’ve scoffed down on breakfast and lunch. Apply these before a big night out and these ain’t going anywhere.

Right, lets talk favourites. Although the classic red 401 Scarlatto will forever be a favourite of mine across the board when it comes to Armani Beauty lip products, the one I’ve been reaching for most is 505 Second-Skin. It’s a pinky plum that’s got a bit of a rosiness to it and it’s one of those colours that is quite hard to come by in liquid lipstick formulas. I just throw on one layer in the morning and it pretty much sorts me out for the day, because even once it’s worn away a little – and we’re talking late afternoon here – there’s a stain that’s left behind that does not budge. I really like the applicator with these as well. The diamond formation of the doe-foot means you don’t need to worry about throwing on a liner before as you can get real precision here, cupids bow and all.

Have you given any of the Lip Magnets a go? Got a shade that’s caught your eye? I must also give a special nod to 302 Hollywood which a great orangey red and 504 Nuda for the fact that it’s my perfect nude. Also, big love to Armani Beauty for finally answering my liquid lip prayers – THANK YOU!
