This lipstick was very much a grower for me. I had swatched it at the Chanel counter many a time, fell in love but never walked away with it in hand. However when I did get round to purchasing it, it took a while for me to really enjoy using it. I had heard so much about these lipsticks, I sort of felt the need to join in; everyone raves about Boy and Chance but you don’t really hear too much about this colour, Evasion. In fact it’s one that most counters don’t even have out on display, so you have to ask to get a peek, I guess that makes it feel even more special!
This lipstick does exactly what it says on the tin, and gives sheer, hydrating colour – you’re not going to get much pigment here but you are going to end up with glossy lips with a pinch of colour. Their glossy nature means that they don’t last long on the lips, two or three hours at most before you need to reapply; but you sort of know you’re in for that as it’s not exactly your typical lipstick – more of a lipstick/lipgloss hybrid. Now for the colour – think MAC Shy Girl but with some added coral warmth. It does have a hint of golden shimmer running through it, but it’s undetectable once you apply it. If you’re a lover of peachy pinks like myself (who isn’t?!), then it’s a dead cert that you will fall in love with the shade. I’ve actually found it to look petty bloomin’ fantastic when paired with the Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in Shade 2 for an extra peachy sheen.
I think the reason it took me a while to get on with this lipstick is that I got the Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Lipstick in BG922* around the same time and that offers a similar finish but with a much more opaque colour, so when I compared it against the Chanel I was a little disappointed, especially considering it’s extortionate price tag – *cough* £23 *cough*. But after a few weeks of giving it a test I think I can now see what all the fuss is about. In a nutshell these are the perfect Summer lipsticks – a hint of colour, moisturising on the lips and a glossy finish. I may have to indulge in a few more colours and let me tell you now, it has absolutely nothing to do with the uber-luxe Chanel packaging 😉
