Feather nails? I may have balked a little when these cropped up in my inbox. And with my adventures into the nail art world only stretching to wraps and the odd appearance of a dotting tool – it’s fair to say I’m a little unadventurous when it comes to fancy fingertips. But never one to turn down a challenge (and with the boredom of Nail Rehab settling in) I accepted and a few days later dropped Ciaté’s Feathered Manicure Set* through my letterbox.
Firstly the deats. It’s available in three base shade/feather colour combos (I’ve got the Ruffle My Feathers one), the kit all-in costs £20 and they’ll be launching in stores this month. For your dollar you get a Mini Ciaté Nail Paint, Speed Coat Pro Fast Dry Top Coat, feathers (I counted just over 30), a pair of scissors and two buffers. The idea is that you paint on two coats of your base colour then slick over a thick layer of the top coat. While things are still wet you lay a feather over the nail, leaving the base colour peeking through at the cuticle. Once that is dry you clip off the excess feather with the scissors, seal it in with another layer of top coat and buff the edges so everything’s smooth and there’s no feathery overhang. It sounds tricky – and a little lengthly – but hey if I can do it, and time-wise it took about one episode of The Great British Bake Off to perfect.
All in all I’d say it was a rather successful foray into feathers. Pretty easy to use, not too fiddly and the results lasted a good few days before things started to look a little raggedy. However – if I decide to rock it again I think I’d go for the whole accent nail thang. That way you eek out use of your 30 feathers and it fastens the whole process. Probably my favourite bit of the kit though is the base colour – Chinchilla. A perfect blend of bluey, lilac grey. What a beaut.
