I’m not gonna lie. I’m pretty excited…
*This post features an advertorial from Topshop
Guys, autumn is *almost* here and not that I’m wishing the hot days and drawn-out evenings away or anything, but I am very, very excited. Coats are back in stock, I can wear my dressing gown again (sometimes) in the mornings and you don’t feel as though you’re about to spontaneously combust if you consume anything that’s above room temperature for dinner. It’s exciting stuff.
However when it comes to shopping for clothing, it’s a bit of an odd time. Although the wooly knits are filtering back through onto the racks, you’re still in danger of melting if you dare go on the central line; so I propose that there’s a sweet spot somewhere in the middle that we should be aiming to hit if we’re looking to extend our wardrobe over the next coupe of weeks. The time will come to stock up on the winter warmers, but for now I say let’s handpick items that will see us through this sometimes clammy, sometimes chilly summer/autumn transition. It’s all about making those purchases that can be modified and worn from now until late autumn and beyond, and today I’m providing my edit of items that fit that bill from Topshop…
LONG-SLEEVE TOPS
Whilst we may still have a couple of days of camisole-wearing weather left, and perhaps even a few more that suit t-shirts and short-sleeve tops, something with a longer sleeve is a safer bet for the upcoming months. Grab something in a soft and breathable fabric and then it will become even more of an essential in your wardrobe. It will be something you can layer up with a vest underneath in the winter or bundle under a jacket, or wear just with a skirt or jeans now. I like these wrap designs because there’s something that still feels a bit summery about them and the shape works well for both grabbing brunch at the weekend, or wearing to an office with some black cigarette trousers if you want to jazz up your working wardrobe a little.
Firstly there’s this Button Wrap Peplum Top in White which does that whole ‘basic with twist’ thing thanks to some button detail on the front and bell-sleeves which make it a nice diversion from the classic white shirt. If you fancy some colour in your life I am IN LOVE with the emerald green tones of this Knot Front Blouse. Just think how lush it would look paired with some pale wash denim and some black Chelsea boots? It’s available in five different colours, but I really do think that everyone looks good in that jewel-shade. Finally, it’s not a wrap top per se but it’s animal print and therefore all criteria is met with this Leopard Print Shirt. My Topshop cart is constantly chocker with their latest leopard print offering – which they seem to be excelling at recently – and this is the latest addition.

HARD-WEARING BAGS
Now don’t get me wrong I love a straw bag and have practically worn my rope bag that I picked up at the beginning of the summer season every single day since I purchased it, however as the possibility of rain and getting soaked to the point where it looks like you forgot to towel off after your morning shower, becomes more of a possibility, it’s time to switch up our accessories and land on an option that’s hardier to the outside elements. Now I’m not suggesting that it’s time to grab your black leather tote bag just yet – we can still have fun with some colour, eh?
I wouldn’t usually say that I’m much of an accessories kinda gal, but it’s taking serious restraint to stop me from putting all of these in my basket right this second. You really can’t go wrong with the Lacey Handle Shoulder Bag. It works cross-body, or slung over the shoulder too and looks like you’d be able to fit all your essentials in there. If you can’t seem to tear yourself away from the classic round-bag summer shape then grab this Tortoiseshell Handle Bag which comes in a mix of terracotta fabrics and is both summer and autumn appropriate with its tortoiseshell and gold detailing. For a true multi-tasker though say hello to the Sallie Tortoiseshell Handle Shoulder Bag which looks like you could fit a small-to-medium size laptop in it and comes with both a carry-handle and a longer strap to wear over your shoulder.

DENIM (AS ALWAYS!)
Is there ever a bad time to buy denim? I think not. Hey, even last weekend in Ibiza I cracked out a pair of jeans for dinner one night. They’re the workhorses of my wardrobe. The backbone that glues everything together and whenever I challenge myself to break out of my comfort-zone for a couple of days I always come running back to denim, with it feeling like home once I’m snuggly zipped back in. If you’re looking a bit sparse in your own denim department then I highly recommend a visit in store (or with a personal shopper for a complimentary session), to try different styles on for size. You might end up with the pair that fits like a glove.
Now you lot know that Topshop denim in particular rules the roost in my wardrobe and there are two styles that I’d point you in the right direction of. If you’re looking for a pair that are more suited to warmer climates, or are new to straight leg styles, then I’d recommend the Orsons which are made from a slightly lighter denim so are great when it’s toasty outside but you still fancy wearing jeans, and are cut to a more slim-fit straight-leg. However I do love the Straight Leg Raw Hem design, which with their cut-off hems look great when paired with sandals, or your autumnal ankle boots. Summer or autumn, you’re sorted.
