Me and lipgloss, we have a funny ol’ relationship. I was a ’90’s kid so spent my childhood watching my Mum apply a shimmer-heavy lipstick before work and the lip product of the moment was lip oils packaged up in rollerball-form. Who remembers those? I had a minty one that was clear green and I used to put so much on my lips that the oil practically dribbled down my chin. Nice. Then came the era of the Lancome Juicy Tubes. Still to this day I’ve never owned one, but my mate Lauren did and we’d all go all doe-eyed each time she got it out of her bag. Nude glosses became huge, especially when I was at Uni and each time I went out I’d apply MAC Lipglass in Pink Lemonade and 2N (a limited edition colour that I went mad for) to the extreme. Gloopy and sticky, I loved ’em.
Then I found the Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfectors and never looked back. No other gloss formula has really got a look-in since I discovered them and they’re easily my most used lip product of recent years. The colours are sheer and the formula is light and moisturising and doesn’t leave you feeling like your lips are going to stick shut. The only thing issue with them is that they’re not the longest lasting formula out there. Give it an hour and you need another application which isn’t much of a negative for me, but sometimes you’re out and about and a lip product touch-up isn’t on the cards. That’s where this new Clinique Pop Lacquer Lip Colour and Primer comes in…
Gloopy, heavy and with a tonne of pigmentation, on paper this doesn’t sound like something that would be up my street, but actually I’ve grown quite fond the shade Nude. The colour is a beaut – kinda beige, kinda peach, kinda pink – and it hangs around on my lips for hours and that’s why I love it. It’s opaque so definitely has a decent amount of colour that it deposits to the lips and although it’s super glossy it can be patted down to just make things look nice and juicy. It’s like the ‘liquid lipstick‘ version of lipgloss in that it’s a pain in the arse to remove, not the most comfortable to wear, but wins in the longevity stakes.
If you want something on your lips, but want a gloss that ain’t going anywhere anytime soon, then this is your guy.
