Applying sunscreen on holiday, although necessary, is really a step of my Summer routine that I’m not too fond of. However, this year I took some time to do a little research into it and picked out some products that I thought would save me from my usual white-streaked, greasy, sunscreened-up self and you know what I think I picked pretty well!
For my face, the Chantecaille Ultra Sun Protection SPF 50 has been doing the trick. Non-oily, it leaves a matte finish to my skin and is a great base for makeup (if I can be bothered to put it on). It is however, extremely pricey and not something that I would consider getting again for that reason. I’ve heard good things about the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer range for the face so I might see if that could be a good and ridiculously cheaper alternative. On my body I’ve been using the Institut Esthederm Adaptasun Lotion for Extreme Sun. I bought this after seeing Ruth’s post, where she describes the technology behind this a trillion and one times better than I ever could, but in a nutshell it encourages your skin to increase it’s natural sun protection. I was a little sceptical but it’s actually worked really well, and aside from one day where I forgot to apply it to my shins (ouch), it’s kept me sunburn free, isn’t too greasy for a lotion and smells rather fab. Another body sunscreen that I’ve been using more on the go and wielding in my hands in waterparks and spritzing on anyone who passes is the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunblock SPF 45; now I don’t think this is a range that we have in the UK, which is rubbish as it’s great. Completely clear, really cooling on the skin and has been keeping my shoulders a red-free zone. Now for aftersun I think I’ve found a new favourite – the Clarins After Sun Moisturiser Self Tanning Lotion. This stuff is amazing – it soothes your skin, while giving you a touch of added glow, which I’m certainly in need of as my skin doesn’t naturally tan, but this has made me look nice and sunkissed!
So there you have it, a little ramble about my sunny side up body and face routine. And so far, I’m managed to stay burn free – aside from the mini shin incident, but the Clarins After Sun managed to clear that up within two days. Woop! The weather hasn’t been too fabulous over here for the past two days, so I managed to squeeze in time to film a haul video yesterday – keep an eye out for that – it’s on it’s way!
