What better way to kick the year off video-wise than with a retrospective look back at the best of beauty from the past 12 months, products old and new, award show stylée? I can be a cosmetics floozy from time to time, so here is the HG-stuff, the real good’uns; most of which I have repurchased or are well on the way to scribbling them down again on my shopping list. Today I’m covering the makeup, tool and nail categories and I’ll be back again on Sunday with the rest. Oh yes, it’s a long one. If a 15 minute ramble is a little beefy for you I’ve summarised my top five picks from those featured for ya:
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation: Do I even need to go over these one? A near enough perfect complexion in a bottle and in a colour range that satisfies my sun kissed skin in the summer and English rose tones in the cooler months. I’m not sure I’ll ever be without this.
Kevyn Aucoin The Sculpting Powder in Medium: Before the purchase of this product occurred all contouring attempts were marred by orange toned streaks and a sub-par application, but with this stuff? Well it can eek out something that looks a little like cheekbones even on a football-headed gal like myself.
NARS Pro-Prime Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base: I do sometimes wonder if I have the greasiest eyelids in the history of mankind. One slick of this stuff over my lids mind you keeps everything in place, even the creamiest of formulas, without creasing or migrating across my face. Miles better than any other eye primer I’ve tried.
Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Soft Brunette: Hello big brows. The thing I love about this is that it does everything brow-related in one. A spoolie on one end grooms and pops hairs back into their natural groove and the waxy formula (in a tone that works pretty darn perfectly with my natural tones) on the other fills gaps and sets everything into place.
Red Carpet Manicure Gel Polish Kit: Now this might seem like an oddball addition, but since I gave this a test pedi back in the summer I haven’t used any other brand of polish on my toes. It lasts a good month each time before I have to repaint and I’ve even whipped it on my fingertips in times of need.
If however, you’re in need of some serious procrastination then here’s your out for the next quarter of an hour. Enjoy.
