One of the more frequent questions I am posed, aside from who is my favourite in The Great British Bake Off (FYI, I can’t pick one – can I just say Mel and Sue?) is for advice when it comes to tinted moisturisers. Tinted moisturiser A VS. tinted moisturiser B? What one for oily skinned gals? Best all-rounder? Is the Chantecaille Just Skin worth it? Just a snippet of what my twitter timeline looks like along with pictures you guys tweet me of Anna-enabled purchases and Ryan Gosling GIFs – keep ‘em coming. So I thought I’d break it down into my four favourites; the pros, cons and who’s gonna love it.
The one that’s a good all-rounder: NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser (I have the shade Alaska) -£28 – from Space NK. When I first tried NARS’ offering I wasn’t wowed. But now with a new appreciation for a sheer complexion and a decreased aversion to dewiness, I see the appeal. Enough coverage to satisfy good skin days and a humongous range of shades to boot, it ticks all the boxes of your standard T.M formula; adding glow, moisture and a hint of tint. Greasy gals may need a little powder and a touch of concealer may be required here and there, but overall it’s a good place to start in the tinted moisturiser world.
The one with coverage: Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturiser (I have the shade Bisque, though could do with Nude) – £33 – from Space NK. When it comes to tinted moisturiser, leave it to Laura Mercier – she knows what she’s doing. Her range features a whole wardrobe of ’em, but my favourite is the Oil-Free formula. Now only do I find it to have the most longevity out of the bunch, it also has the most coverage; making it a possible shopping list addition for tinted moisturiser newbies wishing to dip their toes into the light-er coverage base pool. There’s also a tonne of shades. See? Told you she has you covered.
The one for some serious glow: Chantecaille Just Skin Anti-Smog Tinted Moisturiser (I have the shade Glow for summer and Nude for winter) – £57 – from Space NK. This takes the biscuit for one of the most expensive products in my stash ever, but also one of my favourites too. Darn. Falling more into the light coverage foundation category this has a fair dose of tint along with a heavy dose of glow; making it ideal for dewy skin lovers or those with a drier complexion. In fact this is the only base product that my foundation-phobe Mother will wear. If you want to see what this looks like on the skin, look no further.
The one for greasy gals: Jouer Matte Moisture Tint (I have the shade Linen) – £29 from Cult Beauty. This option is a one of a kind. A light veil of coverage paired with just the right balance of skin-like texture but without too much of a glow – I’m not really sure how it does it. Now this isn’t matte matte, though it’s the most oil-controlling I’ve found. A truly matte finish goes against the tinted moisturiser roster, but a bit of powder should solve that problem. The secret is to a mix a blob of this with their luminizing offering (shhhh!), but for those with an oiler complexion this is the one for you. There’s a full rave with swatches here if this has wet your whistle.
In terms of a more purse friendly option – I’ll report back on that one. Though Revlon’s Nearly Naked Foundation is the best tinted moisturiser-esque product I’ve found in the aisles, despite its name. But take your pick from the above – they’re all good’uns. Perhaps you’d like a battle of the BB’s? Now that’s a whole different story.
