The Nail Polish Clear-Out: What’s Left?

IMG_0152 IMG_0154

I won’t bore you with another rambley intro of how recently I’ve amped up the streamlining when it comes to my beauty stash. I’m sure you’ve already got the gist of that by now. I’ve already shown you what made it through my foundation cull here, so today I thought I’d talk you through the remains of another drawer that was pretty brimming a few months back. I’d say when we moved I probably owned about 60 nails polishes, but in true makeup magpie hoarding I probably only used about 10 or so in rotation. By the time I filmed my Nail Polish Collection video in early September I’d got it down to around 40, then fast-forward to the new year and I’ve got my lacquer edit down to almost single digit numbers.

Now I’m under no illusion that it will stay this way forever, but if it does end up growing then I hope to see it expand with colours that I actually use. Regularly. I’m not about this keeping things for ‘once in a blue moon’ these days. You’ll notice that a few of my favourites have gone, but the formulas were old, tired and well past their best. My glitters had gone gloopy and some of my most-loved taupes were streaky and thick. If I really, really miss ‘em then I can always do the repurchase that they were well overdue anyway. So say hello to my Smith & Cult-heavy nail polish edit. Surprise, surprise…

Smith & Cult Nail Polish in Kings & Thieves – I’m a big lover of blue nail polish, despite the sniffs from my mate Mel who is a firm believer that blue nail polish is against her religion. I kinda get it. This is the perfect blend of royal blue and navy; meaning that it doesn’t look like you’re doing some kind of denim effect on your nails, but doesn’t look black either.

Smith & Cult Nail Polish in Bitter Buddhist – Probably my favourite nail colour of the past few months. It’s a murky mint so unlike the bright white pastels, I feel comfortable wearing this all year round.

Smith & Cult Nail Polish in Dark Like Me – I had an absolute tonne of ‘Is it black? No it’s red’ nail colours, so I decided to cut it back to just two, because one just doesn’t cut it in this category.

Smith & Cult Nail Polish in Doe My Dear – I just bloody love this colour. It was my first Smith & Cult bottle that I picked up and it’s still my favourite. It’s like a bone beige and there’s just something that looks so polished about it when it’s applied to the nails. Like a clean colour for gals that don’t feel a perfect mani pink.

Smith & Cult Nail Polish in Stockholm Syndrome – If I can’t decide between a taupe and a dark shade then this is what I go for as it’s the perfect amalgamation of the two. A little bit purple, a little bit grey, a little bit smokey. Oo la la.

Nails Inc Nail Polish in Porchester Square – I wasn’t going to ditch this colour was I? Come on! This has been my favourite colour for years and still remains up there in my top polish charts. When it doubt – reach for Porchester Square. If that was on t-shirt I’d buy it.

OPI Nail Lacquer in Berlin There Done That – Now I promise that I’m not keeping this one for the name (but it does make me chuckle whenever I use it!). It’s probably the most perfect taupe; not too brown or too purple. It’s one of those colours that I can’t quite work out and can’t stop looking at each time I have it on.

CHANEL Le Vernis Lacquer in Ecorce Sanguine – For my one red I picked this one because it might just be the most opaque colour. Ever. Seriously, one coat of this is all that’s required. Plus it’s a mid-toned red in that it’s pretty dark compared to others that I own and not too orange making it nice festive and chic colour choice.

CHANEL Le Vernis Lacquer in Rouge Noir – This is a classic that I will always cling on to. When I’m feeling rough around the edges a coat of this makes me feel a little more chic. The darkest shade of my collection and probably the sexiest too.

Topshop Nails in Boy Next Door – I’m not the biggest fan of pastels, but the following two from Topshop I feel like I can just about stomach, especially in the summer. I have a feeling this bright, sea-foam mint was a limited edition jobbie, but Topshop have something similar in their usual range I’m sure.

Topshop Nails in Blue Rinse – This is my ‘fun’ shade of out the colour clan. A little bit lilac and a little bit blue, I wore this an absolute tonne over the past summer, so let’s see what happens this time around.
