I may have fallen into one of the biggest beauty blogger cliches there are, but last week I caved and purchased some Muji storage. Minimal? Yes. Convenient? Yes. Kardashian-inspired? Perhaps. But after lugging my whole makeup drawer (see my storage here), to the mirror with me each morning, rooting around and making a mess one to many times I thought it was time to decant my daily favourites into a more portable package. I opted for the smallest 2-drawer option available, so it’s been a bit of a tight squeeze, but here’s what has made the cut for the moment…
The bottom is occupied by my daily base choices. I’m currently switching between two complexion even-outers – the YSL Teint Touche Éclat in B40 for full coverage days and the Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturiser in Bisque if my skin is looking alright. My dark circles are pretty horrendous at the moment (mainly due to my obsession with the TV show Girls, and me staying up to 3am watching episodes consecutively – opps!), so I’m bringing out the badboy combo of Bobbi Browns Corrector in Porcelain Peach and Creamy Concealer in Sand. Another concealer I’m giving a go is the Origins Plantscription Anti-aging Concealer in Medium*, which I tend to use on areas of redness on my face – hello rudolf nose. The Korres Lip Butter in Jasmine has also weaselled its way in there and is my lip product of choice for ultimate no-fuss lazy days.
Next up the top drawer, which basically contains everything else. Obvious choices like the Kevyn Aucoin The Sculpting Powder in Medium and Hourglass Bronze Light Cream-to-Powder Bronzing Duo are housed, along with L’Oreal Telescopic Waterproof Mascara (quelle surprise). My current cheek concoction of the moment – Burberry’s Sheer Summer Glow* and Light Glow Tangerine Blush also made the cut. For my eyebrows I’ve thrown in the Laura Mercier Eyebrow Pencil in Warm Brunette and Anastasia’s Brow Gel in Espresso, and my eyeliner to hide those ‘Girls’ filled nights, MAC’s Chromographic Pencil in NC15/NW20. Then for my lips, Burberry’s Lip Cover in Cameo.
On the top are what I like to call the ‘finishers’. Two beauty bits for adding extra intensity – AERIN’s Holiday Style Palette* (review coming tomorrow), which contains some equally beautiful neutral and sultry eyeshadows and a shimmery highlighter, and Chantecaille’s Lipstick in Sweet Pea*, which reminds me so much of my first MAC lipstick Speed Dial, with a slightly more sheeny texture. Then my current fragrance rotation of Gucci’s Guilty, Escentric Molecule’s Molecule 01 and Elie Saab finish off the Muji cube mix.
If you want to join the gang, you can pick it up from Muji stores or online here – for £8.50 (bargain I know), and I’ve ordered from them before and it’s all a ‘ok. Now I may just have to add a few more drawers to it…
