When the newest Rimmel Lipstick drop landed on my desk I thought two things. One, why do Rimmel Lipsticks always perform so darn well but smell so darn bad? And two, I think we may have some MAC dupes on our hands here. Let’s begin by addressing the first point. Rimmel have given their Moisture Renew Lipstick line a revamp, adding 10 new shades to their existing 10 colour range and oomphing up the pigment and hydration into the ol’ faves. And once again they tick all the boxes: heavy doses of colour with a glossy finish, that doesn’t dry and settle into lines and is pretty long lasting (I’ll forgive the sickly vanilla whiff). Now onto the MAC dupe theory. After swatching them all side by side I think there’s only one true like-for-like in the pack, but the other two are close enough and one I think I even prefer…
Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in In Love With Ginger* = MAC Lipstick in Morange. The truest dupes from the range I’ve found. Blind-swatched I don’t think I’d have a clue which one was which. The finishes are the same, undertones the same, application the same. If I had to be nit-picky I’d say the Rimmel colour has a tad more orange to it, but that’s a good thing. I love me an orangey red.
Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in Coral Britannia* = MAC Lipstick in Shy Girl. Ah Shy Girl, my old faithful and still only one of two MAC Lipsticks that I’ve ever completely finished up and repurchased (Creme Cup being the other). Now these two are probably the least dupey of the bunch with Coral Britannia being much more pink-toned than peach. But they both fall into that ‘nude but not too nude’ category and that’s good enough, right?Â
Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in Glam Plum Fulham* = MAC Lipstick in Rebel. Both demi-dewy and punchy in finish these two shades give a simple makeup with lashings of mascara a serious kick of vamp. Rimmel’s offering leans a little more berry and the MAC more purple and you know what? Slicked onto my pout I actually prefer the Rimmel.
If any of the three have caught your eye you may have to wait a few days to get your hands on them as the official launch date is 2nd October 2013, but we all know how these things like to trickle into the aisles of Boots and Superdrug a little early. Rimmel do it again and some MAC dupes(-ish) at half the price; some of the best budget buys I’ve seen.
