My blog reading feed is alive with the sound of bold lip posts and I’m loving it. When festive season comes around who doesn’t love to dust off the reds and slick ’em on (only for them to be forcibly removed by copious mince pie munching an hour later)? Yeah, me too. Pair it with a slick looking base, lashings of mascara, but something’s missing…..blush. Just what cheek colour do you throw on with a rouge lip to stop things looking like you’re channeling your inner tomato head? Well I’m proposing that it’s all about the ‘no-fuss blush’, pinky tans that flatter all skintones, perk things up and don’t interfere with what you’ve got going on lip-wise. Here are three of my favourites…
When I think of a nothingy cheek offering in my stash the first one that pops into my makeup-filled mind is Tarte’s Long Wear Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed (Tarte is soon to be arriving in the UK next year apparently, squeal). This one is like the original of barely there beauty. Sure, it’s pigmented, but one quick sweep keeps things looking fresh on the cheek and the mix of pink and brown help keep the attention to your pop of rouge. One similar in shading, but different in formula is the new AERIN Multicolour Duo for Lip and Cheek. It houses a rosy gold highlighter and cream blush in that ‘no-fuss’ shade I’m banging on about and the cheek colour especially is a stunner. It’s very sheer, so is one for my fellow English roses out there, but it blends beautifully adding a tint of colour and a sheen of glow. I’ve not only been calling this into action in red lip times, but also at the weekends as part of a parred back routine (tip off: it looks fab with CHANEL’s Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation).
I’ve saved the newest purchase till last, NARS Blush in Doucer. People have been raving about this dusky tan toned blush since its release but it was only last week that I finally got round to picking it up and well, I can see what all the fuss is about. Not being the worlds biggest blush lover at the best of times, this somehow manages to negate he need for more colour or contour in one step and you can barely tell it’s there. It’s tough to describe the colour it leaves behind, it’s just so natural and perks things up to just the right level to pair with a bold lip. I may have found the blush to turn me…
