Ever since my hair has been dunked and dipped into ombré I’ve had to give it a little more TLC than I used to. Being a colouring virgin I was primed to throw in some conditioner and be done with my hair moisturising activities, but since the big dip I’ve had to embrace pre-shampoo treatments, masks, leave-in conditioners and oils by the bucketload. My hair doesn’t fall completely into the ‘dry and damaged’ category just yet but it drinks up the good stuff these days so I’ve had to add a fair few new products into my routine, but today it’s the mane moisture edit…
As a pre-shampoo treatment there’s only one product that bustles about for top place - Philip Kingsley’s Elasticizer*. In all honesty it’s the only one I’ve ever tried (any recommendations do pop them below, I’ll be waiting with a pen and paper), but slathered on an hour or two, or even the night before a hairwash, when rinsed out this leaves my hair seriously silky smooth – a recurring result with all the proceeding products mentioned, surprise, surprise. For post-shampoo hairmasks the ranking isn’t so easy. I’ve spoken about the Joico K-Pak Reconstruct Deep Penetrating Reconstructor which serves its purpose perfectly well; I also recently got my mitts on Redken’s Colour Extend Rich Recovery Mask which may just win the prize for nicest smelling mask to slap on my locks. But the best I’ve given a go (and one that also smells AH-mazing), is the Label.m Therapy Age-Defying Recovery Mask*, it’s the least buttery-textured out of the three but I can’t stop my locks from swishing about after I’ve thrown it on. Things can get a little wild when it comes to my damp hair stock as there’s a nice little product conveyor belt that comes out to play when I’ve exited the bathroom. Oils aside I’m becoming rather fond of leave-in conditioners, and tend to smooth on either the good ol’ Kérastase Nectar Thermique (forgot to add it to the picture, my bad!) or the L’Oreal Expert Pro-Keratin Refill Protective Cream*. The Kérastase wins by a smidge though as it’s thermal-protective for when I whack out my straighteners. 2-in-1? I’m in.
I’m crossing my fingers, being economical with heat styling and slapping on my mane moisture, work with me hair. Who knows, if this goes well maybe I’ll have to dip in and go for the whole hair dye hog? Crazier things have happened…
