I gave into the hype. Despite not being the biggest fangirl of matte complexions and already being in ownership of the luminising version (one of my faves, but more on that later), the Jouer Matte Moisture Tint somehow made its way home to me. Sorry I’m not sorry. The blurb had me sold: ‘lightweight’, ‘smooth’, ‘seamless’ – it was a done deal. Jouer, an LA export, always delivers for me and with a matte tinted moisturiser-stylée product being a bit of a rare thing to find in the beauty jungle I just had to see what the who-ha was about. Now I already had a bottle in my stocks, but in a shade that had my boyfriend give me that ‘Anna, today you look like an oompha loompa‘ expression, so saddled up with a more au natural colour Linen I was ready to see what all the fuss was about…
Let’s just get one thing straight from the get go; although this is the most matte low coverage offering I’ve tried, it’s by no means matte matte. If you want something that’s going to keep oils at bay, this on its own will not hold up. Powdered, maybe? But it leaves the skin with more of a velvet-like texture that lets just a hint of your natural sheen pop through on the cheekbones (see pic above for glow reference). It does live up to its ‘tint’ title though and gives a thin veil of coverage – enough to take the edge off of redness but your pesky pimples will pop through. Spot my little friend? The lasting power is as good as any other tinted moisturiser I’ve tried and the colour Linen suits me spot on (the other shade I have is Nude which is waaaaay too dark). And application-wise I like to smooth on with my Real Techniques Buffing Brush then work in with my fingers for a real ‘what? I’m not wearing any makeup – LIES‘ finish.
Comparison time with its sheenier sister the Luminizing Moisture Tint and obvious differences in textures aside the two are actually very similar in coverage levels. I find mixing a blob of each together satisfies my need for something a little dewy on my base without  venturing into oil-slick territory. Or I blend the matte version all over my T-zone and add a touch of the luminising formula over my cheeks if I’m feeling fancy.
The deats? £29 from Cult Beauty, and although it’s usually out of stock I joined the waitlist and legged it to grab my card when the ‘it’s back’ email appeared. Another notch on my Jouer bedpost and I bloomin’ love it.
