So for the last two weeks I’ve rocked bold lips and this week I’m wearing eyeshadow – what the heck is going on? I’m not quite sure, but I love it! I’m not really an eyeshadow person, I have a few palettes hanging around and dig them out every now and again if I can be bothered with the hastle of defining, shading and blending but find that I don’t have much lid space to play around with anyway. But last weekend I had a play with my newest palette – the Estée Lauder Pure Colour Five Colour Gelée Powder in Bronze Sands* from their Bronze Goddess 2012 Capri Collection (full review on that here). It’s not often that I am bowled over by an eyeshadow palette, the original Urban Decay Naked palette is probably the last one I really fell in love with, but this, well, it’s absolutely marvellous and I felt the need to give it a rave!
First up, the colours. Four wearable metallic neutrals – a golden champagne, a cool toned gold, a rose-gold copper and a darkened bronze, it’s fair to say that all four of these shades are up my street. And then there’s the bright turquoise as a contrast which I actually quite like, worn under the eye it gives an interesting pop of colour to your look. Overall the palette is asetectically pleasing. But that isn’t the best bit – the texture and application of these eyeshadows is what really got me. These shadows are the same ‘gelée powder’ formulation as their best-selling highlighters that they keep releasing. A powder/cream texture they blend over the eyelid beautifully, instantly adding a shimmering sheen to my lids. No fall-out at all, just a creamy easy to work with texture. I have quite oily lids and usually have to work hard to apply shadow on them, but these just gave a fool-proof wash of bronze glow pigment – absolutely gorgeous. For this look I wore the cool toned gold on the left all over the lid, the rose-gold copper from the top of the palette in the outer corners and a touch of the darkened bronze for some extra definition. All applied with the Real Techniques Base Shadow Brush.
I finished off the eyes with a touch of Clinique High Impact Mascara on my Boudoir Lashes Eyelash Extensions* which all fell out yesterday after 6 weeks and 1 day! And yes my natural lashes are fine! Hooray! Review on it’s way. My base was my usual Jemma Kidd Light As Air Foundation in 03 and By Terry Touche Veloutee Concealer in 3 all blended in with a Real Techniques Buffing Brush. And for cheeks I went for NARS Laguna with a touch of Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Peach Whisper (full review of that blush here). My lips were treated to a slick of Clarins Natural Light Instant Lip Perfector in 02 and that was my makeup look of the week!
Bit of a long post here, but it is seriously rare that I find an eyeshadow palette that I’m really that impressed with! At the moment the palette is exclusive to House of Fraser stores, but it will be released onto counters nationwide throughout the month.
