Bring it on BB…

BB creams – the face product phenomenon that just won’t seem to go away. Conceals and covers, protects and perfects, these nourishing skincare-rich potions claim to do it all and lets face it – BB creams are old news now. Hell, now it’s CC creams that are close to hitting our shores. After brushing off the hype for so long I’ve caved over the last few months and given some a road-test and the above line-up contains a star, a thumbs up and three duds. Read on for my BB edit…

Lets get the not so fabulous out of the way first. All three fall into the ‘too oily’ category I’m afraid with the Maybelline Dream Fresh 8-in-1 BB Cream topping the chart, the Rimmel 9-in-1 BB Cream* coming a close second and getting extra points deducted for being rather difficult to blend, and the Sleek Be Beautiful Blemish Balm* rounding off the top three, which is one I don’t find too unbearable to wear but not long lasting enough for my tastes. It’s worth noting that I am a bit of a greasy gal so those of you lot with drier complexions may be able to get along with them better. The one that gets a satisfied thumbs up, I’ve already spoken about before – the Origins A Perfect World BB* (full review here). Available in a decent shade range, it does everything it says on the tin and gives a nice amount of coverage without feeling too sheeny on the skin, but still giving a fresh and healthy finish. Think of a product between a BB cream and a tinted moisturiser and this is what you end up with.

The stand out BB is one I picked up on my travels when I needed some change for the loo’s at a train station – any old excuse to stock up on beauty bits, eh? I’d heard a lot of good things about the Dr Jart+ BB’s when they released – there are four different formulations in total, which when pondering the Boots shelves aren’t all that easy to decipher but I went for the Water Fuse version as it’s oil-free and felt the nicest on the back of my hand (so easily pleased). It only comes in one shade and looks slightly grey toned when first applied, but once buffed in it adapts and fits in with my skintone and leaves a glossy, not greasy, yet natural look to the skin which lasts all day. The high water content also means it feels like you’re giving your face with a good ol’ splash of water which I can vouch for feels rather nice at 6am.

The Dr Jart+ Water Fuse BB Beauty Balm can be grabbed at Boots, or Boots online for £18 for 50ml. What do you love BB?
