Since I finished reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying-up by Marie Kondo I’ve been on even more of an organisational spree than usual. Photo albums have been created, reams of paperwork shredded and even Mark has been bitten by the bug. I do however wish we were bitten by this bug before we moved, as we definitely could have saved ourselves from lugging around a fair few boxes. DOH! At the hub of my downsizing mission is my beauty storage. Now I don’t feel like I had a tonne of makeup anyway, but with my tastes getting more parred back by the day and after sniffing some suspicious smells from certain formulas I knew it was time to have the clear out that I’ve been meaning to have all along. First up was my base drawer and with my foundation stocks at pretty much an all-time low (PAH – low? There’s still 9. Feel free to roll your eyes) I thought I’d show you what survived my beauty cull…
THE TINTED MOISTURISERS. Some of my tinted moisturisers had been hanging around for years *shudders*, so this was an easy category to cut down. In the end just the BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream in Vanilla and Laura Mercier’s Oil-Free Tinted Moisturiser in Nude stayed. Both leave the skin looking fresh and dewy and both are pretty good colour matches for me, especially during the summer. That’s when I usually rock them out so these couldn’t go anywhere because once it warms up again – out they come.
THE ‘IN THE MIDDLE’ ONES. These are probably my favourite type of foundation – you know the ones where there’s pretty decent coverage, but you still look like you’re not wearing makeup? Yeah those. So there were some tough ones to part with, but in the end I decided on keeping four. The Max Factor Miracle Match Foundation in Warm Almond is my drugstore base beau so that had to stay and of course my recently purchased It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream in Fair and Light were keepers. My all-time favourite foundation – CHANEL’s Vitalumiere Aqua in B10 and B20 – had to go back into the drawer and finally I gave the Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation in 2 Fair a chance because I’ve been getting quite into it recently.
THE FULL-ON BASES. Back in the day this would have been my favourite category, but currently these are bases that I save for nights out or times when my skin is looking extra poopy. These were a little easier to sort though because I had a mate over who scooped up a few she wanted to try so in the end I settled on just three formulas. The Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk in 4 and 6 aren’t bottles I reach for that often these days, but they have a special place in my heart, as does the Estée Lauder Perfection Foundation in 1WZ Sand which gives such a nice, glowy coverage. Finally, a new addition – Make Up For Ever Ultra HD in Y225 – which might just be my best colour match that I’ve ever found in a foundation. EVER. I’ll keep you posted on this one…
